Final Week!

Well, it's finally your last week of photo at Reservoir! It's hard to believe that just yesterday you all were young aspiring photo 1 students and now look how far you've come. It's been a fantastic year and I'm really proud of all the hard work and accomplishments each of you have made. You've helped make the reputation of our photo program here at Reservoir truly great, and have inspired younger students for years to come.

Congratulations!

Now, before you go, there are a few things I'd like you to address:

Your Final Exam

1) Upload, title, and organize all of your final works for the quarter onto Flickr for me to grade for your final 4th quarter grade. Make sure to upload any contact sheets and submit to me by Thursday with your sketchbook for me to grade and return to you next week.

2) EXIT SURVEY- this is basically a document for you to recount all of your accomplishments and plans, and for me to have to brag about you later! I will give this out to you to finish by Thurs.

Your Final Show:

1) The Senior Show is this Thursday, May 16th from 6-8 PM. I expect each of you to be there, as you will each be receiving awards and it's our official goodbye! Please make arrangements to be there!

2) Finish installing your final works for the senior show on the display panel by this Wed. You must include at least three works, but you may include more. You may show works from this year, or other years as well. Make sure to include your artist statement, printed and spell-checked to be hung near your works.

If you need work printed for the senior show, the works need to be formatted and given to me by no later then Tuesday, May 14th.

CLEAN OUT YOUR STUFF!

1) Clean out your drawers in the darkroom, your portfolios, anything that belongs to you that is here in the classroom. If you have any photo paper or supplies that you're willing to donate to the photo program, let me know!

2) If you are willing to donate a work for the permanent gallery here in the classroom. It's awesome to have a work hanging in the room to remind everyone of your greatness, and to inspire future students! Works can be given to me after the Senior Show.

AP Exam Due Dates

Here are the due dates for managing your AP Exam steps this week. You will be responsible for completing each step on time and it will be a factor of your 4th quarter grade!

Wed. 5/6: Email, or post revised concentration theme on Flickr (see discussion page) for me to have time to edit before Friday. The commentary has a huge influence on your grade! Remember there are two parts to the commentary, 1) What is the central theme/idea, and 2) How does the work demonstrate this exploration of your theme (refer to specific works by title and number!)

Thurs. 5/7: All final works must be uploaded to the AP site and submitted to me for review. Your commentary should be uploaded as well. All quality works must be matted and ready and submitted by the end of the day.

Fri. 5/8: EXAM DAY! The exam will take place in the art room (here in 112) at 12:00 sharp! Bring a #2 pencil!

Photo 3 AP: Homestretch

Alright everyone, we're cruising down the homestretch for the AP and all of the hard work you've done for your portfolios, applications, and everything else. Here's the plan for the remaining three weeks before the AP. Use this calendar as a way to keep yourself organized and help manage your time:

AP Exam Date: Friday, May 8th 12:00 PM in room 112/114.
Need: All 5 quality works matted (no dimensions larger than 18x24" w/matte) All final breadth and concentration works uploaded (see AP login link on the right), titled, with dimensions onto AP site, with statement.

Friday, April 1st: Flickr small-group critique on concentration sequence w/ Art 3/4 students. Details to follow.

Devote the week of 5/4-5/8 in class for re-printing and matting quality works.

All critiques between now and April 1st are on an as needed basis. Post new/in-progress works on Flickr and send me a note/email with questions comments, or use class time for independent critiques with me.

I expect you all to use your time wisely and independently. Remember to consider what you've proposed in your 4th quarter proposals, and the discoveries you've made in the third quarter. You all will do great!

Portfolio Completion

There are only 6 weeks left before the AP Exam. Just a quick review of what you'll need:
1) 5 high quality prints (18x24" or smaller) Each must be matted/mounted. Variety of media encouraged. May be works from your concentration or breadth,
2) 12 Concentration-Shows a thematic progression explicitly using the principles of design.
3) 12 Breadth-Shows a range of media and subjects that also explicitly use the principles of design.

Flickr Assignment: DUE WED. 3/18
1) Update all portfolio works. Title, and include media and dimensions.
2) Organize into 3 sections above using tabs/sets. Consider moving works between breadth and concentration. Consider older works you may have forgotten, just remember their design is the emphasis in this portfolio!
3) Respond to each question on the Flickr discussion topic "Portfolio Completion" be prepared to share during class on Wednesday.

Amanda, respond to Flickr discussion topic "Personal Challenge." Brainstorm ideas for how you will accomplish these in your sketchbook.

See the Studio Art 2D Design Evaluation pdf at the website link on the right. Download and print for your reference, (pgs. 1-8 only) We will be evaluating each other's portfolios using this criteria periodically before spring break.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post this really quick:

I'm super-proud of each of you who decided to submit work for the Senior Show this year. Each of you have made fantastic works, and as I went through each of your submissions, I realized how truly unique, and authentic all of your work really is this year. You make me proud!

Best of luck!

Critique a Photo 2 portfolio

The Photo 2 students are developing their artist statements this week in class. They are trying to identify themes and ideas in their work and in their approach. To help them along, I would like each of you to choose three Photo 2 students to analyze. In order to give as many students as possible feedback on their work, I do not want the same student critiqued more than once. Go to the Flickr discussion page here to see the questions and format for how you are responding. Combined, your responses will be worth a 30 point homework grade.
